Ghana part ways with Carlos Queiroz after poor AFCON qualifying start
Ghana and Carlos Queiroz have mutually ended their agreement after the Black Stars lost their opening two AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

Ghana have parted ways with Carlos Queiroz by mutual consent after the Black Stars opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with back-to-back defeats.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed the decision on Thursday, saying both sides agreed that ending the arrangement was the most appropriate step in the interests of the national team and Ghanaian football.
Queiroz had only returned to the role in early September after previously leading Ghana at the 2026 World Cup. The new spell began badly: Ghana lost 2-0 away to Côte d’Ivoire before a 4-2 home defeat to Gambia in Accra.
Those results left the Black Stars under immediate pressure in their AFCON 2027 qualifying group. Reuters reported that Queiroz won one of seven matches across his recent spells in charge, with Ghana now needing a response before their November qualifiers against Somalia.
DSN has been following the wider African international window, including Pitso Mosimane’s return with South Africa and Egypt’s decision to rest Mohamed Salah for the South Sudan trip.

Queiroz says the conditions were not fully established
In the statement published by the GFA, Queiroz said he had arrived determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars but acknowledged that recent performances contributed to the decision to end the relationship.
He also said the conditions needed for the project had not been fully established, while thanking the players, technical staff and supporters. The GFA described the split as a mutual decision rather than a dismissal.
The timing leaves Ghana needing to appoint another coach before the next qualifying window. The Black Stars entered the campaign hoping to stabilise after reaching the last 32 of the World Cup, but two opening defeats have instead created another reset.

What comes next for Ghana
Ghana are due to face Somalia twice in November. Those matches now become important not only for the qualification table but also for whoever takes charge of the team next.
The federation has not yet named an interim coach or permanent successor. Any appointment will inherit a squad that still contains significant talent but is short of momentum after consecutive competitive defeats.
